Hunt v Lauda at 70s Silverstone
Who would you like to be , the fun loving playboy or the ultra professional driver ?
Now is your chance to find out in a fun race using their cars on a circuit those drivers battled on ,
Both cars have different handling and power characteristics and are very entertaining to drive , the Mclaren tends towards understeer whilst the Ferrari leans more towards oversteer , the Ferrari has more power , the Mclaren seems to have more torque but both cars are very very quick .
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

So been on the track. To me there seem to either racing gods or probably aliens been putting in 1:15 lap time
I seem to be stuck at 1:18 Any suggestions re setup?

I wonder what the trick is to not get into a spin when downshifting. 5th to 4th works, 4th to 3rd -> Spin

Maybe autoblip is off in this mod?
(In case it could be great)
A little touch of trottle on down-shift like real historic cars

Yes autoblip is off in the mod itself , when changing down to lower gears do the change at a lower speed so that rear axle doesnt lock or as Mauro says blip the throttle
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

I notice you can't change cars, you have to exit and then rejoin

Here are some setup vagaries I have learned about these cars which i hope help you with your setups
Ignore tyre temp spread as the numbers are inaccurate, if you try to achieve an even spread you loose grip , go above 105Kpa and the grip goes away , there is no real noticeable increase in wear running low pressures .
Because of the problem with autoblip , A simple way to stop the back stepping out on the downchange 4 >3 is to increase no3 ratio so the back axle doesnt lock
Both the cars do not like being set low , the chassis grounds out and stops the suspension working .
You need downforce , too little wing is great for the striaghts but penalises your corner speeds and traction out of them
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

Hi thanks for all the input. I also figured that i had to wait a bit longer until i could downshift and preferably still while going straight. after getting used to this it drives great.
I kkep a few mm above the minimum settings and ahve a F1 R9 Wing which feels odd but drives great. Got close to a 15.0 with that but it does not show up in live timing yet
The driving is a lot of fun.
I still remember the TV broaddcasts from that era, we would not miss one as kids.

Yes the racing was more exciting then not as clinical as todays racing, its just a pity the cars were not as safe as now , we lost some good drivers

Some good racing tonight , these cars are a lot of fun , get the setup right and you can make them flow where you want .
Tonights result Lauda 1 - Hunt 1 , i think we need another race , what 70s track would you prefer

Had fun racing with you guys on Sunday. For some reason I was logged in as Your Nickname. I'll figure that one out later. I practiced a lot before the race. Practicing off line I finally got myself down to 1:16. But I got so involved in shaving off the tenths that I missed the start of the first race! Doh!
Had fun with Tobias. We were quite even in speed with him 1-2 secs ahead of me until he had an off about half way through. I then followed Cookie at about 3-4 secs but could never close on him. On the next to last lap, with about a 10 sec lead on Tobias, I went bouncing over the the log bumps in the last chicane and managed to get my car perched on top of a hay bale with all 4 wheels of the ground. Race over. Still, a lot of fun.
