SR4L Special Event: One lap shootout at Targa Florio with Lola T280[/SIZE]
SR4L presents an (experimental) endurance event, situated in the mountains of Sicily, near Palermo in Italy.
We will be racing our Lola T280 through the villages, mountain roads and open fields of what is called the Targa Florio.
1 lap to show your skills, your guts, your ambition to be the fastest around this +/- 40 minutes roadcourse.
Format:
* The main event will be held during the qualify session, which will be set to 10 minutes.
* All drivers must stay in the lobby, do not enter track before the host says so.
* After 2 minutes the host will start calling the name of the driver, who must then press ''race'', enter track and start lap. You don't need to comply to pit speed, just go!!
* Names will be called at random with a 30 second interval.
* You have only one chance for one lap, drivers having more than 3 laps (outlap, flying lap, inlap) behind their laptime will be disqualified. Beware: going back to lobby and press race again and it's over.
* After 10 minutes, the session ends but you will be able to finish your lap. Nobody will be able to enter track anymore, that's why we choose this format.
* Damage ratio 25%
* Host will inevitably start last
The driver with the fastest lap wins.
Naturally, faster drivers will meet slower drivers, especially since drivers will be called at random. Please be careful passing your opponent.
There is a lag issue when entering setup screen. Going back to lobby and entering setup screen again may solve that. I advise you to do most of your setup work prior to the actual event.
Important: If you cut the line at start/finish like I am about to do in image below, rF2 may think you are entering pitlane and thus not record a laptime. If you do your race is finished.
Race day information:
Sunday 29th of december
18:00 Gmt 120 minutes practise
20:00 Gmt Main event (qualify) first driver will start 2 minutes into the session, then the rest, one by one, with 30 second interval.
pls note that main event will start the same time as normal league race 1
Server password: sr4ltarga
SR4L wishes you good luck but most and above all, have fun!!

Nice format Marcel.
If it would have been a race, it would be less nice I think on this track. Good to see this is not a 12 lap race as a lap takes -what?- a week or so?
The format attracts me and I would like to enter, be it not I go on a 9 day holiday this saturday, so can't make it.
Btw; thanks for calling the line yesterday, couldn't thank you right then and there as I have enough trouble keeping the car on the stuff it's made for already
I know now why my counter didn't start; think that's the place where I moved over to let Rikard go by. (Last time I do a good deed )
Have fun sunday guys!

Agree, nice format Although I think 20 sec interval is a bit short for such a long track. ~1 min should be no problem. IRL there was 2 min interval IIRC.
"drivers having more than 1 lap behind their laptime will be disqualified"
For me, it often says I have driven several laps even though I have only done 1 lap and not restarted.

Yeah, think that should be 2 laps but it get's the idea across
@Gplay, great vid. I hear him mention 15 secs interval?..

from Wiki
"Like a rally event, the race cars were started one by one every two minutes for a time trial, as a start from a full grid was not possible on the tight and twisty roads."
BUT, if we have say 15 drivers, and choosing is random, it would mean waiting 1/2 an hour before you go.
So, I dont mind 20sec intervals, maybe make it 30?
Also I propose only in this race, "STUCK" shout at chat should be allowed and mabe the next racer can help him unstuck.

Wouldn't it be an idea to send out the fast drivers first? That way there's less overtaking (in theorie).
Hard to say who's the faster guy in some cases, but maybe the championship standings could be a guide for that (not to say someone lower is slower of course, but there "has" to be a structure than.

Yeah that's what I've read also (but he says 15 sec in video actually). Anyway, I agree 2 min is too long intervals.
But with 1 minute it's only 15 min waiting as longest, and imo it's ok, but if we cut it to 40 sec or something should not that be fine? Only 10 minutes.

Haha I like the idea... But I won't look at the chat while driving. My steering wheel is hiding part of the chat so I always need to look over the wheel when reading... And it often make me loose concentration, so I don't read it while racing anymore But no problem for me. Don't get upset if I just drive past without helping though 8)
@Navigator
That would be the best thing to do of course... But it's only a fun race so I don't mind. Sure I can have bad luck and need to pass maybe 8 slow drivers while another fast driver is first out and have no traffic at all, for example. IRL I can imagine they had some kind of quali because I think the faster cars started first (especially since there was different type of cars). But anyway, I don't mind. It's only for fun. But I sure would appreciate if slower drivers let the faster past asap. Probably the fastest way for both part

It's going to be a little difficult for me to be in. Have a meal on sunday that could last indefinately, so I don't know if I'll be home by race time.

That is a way of dealing with the problem, but if you see the standings you'll see many faster than me in lower places, so I think Rikards proposal of 40sec ontervals could do it.
I think 40 is a safe pillow if I remember well the difference from fast to slow here.

Sounds cool Marcel.
Me, I don't mind encountering other drivers, it reminds me I'm playing online.
I guess afterwards, for those people that want to and not too tired, could always then race when the server goes to race. If server is set to 30 mins, the race will end after 1 lap with a chequered flag. That should also give Gorka a chance of a lap (with his fat belly of course ).
I was watching Rik last night, looks as if he knows the track by memory, fast.

I think it is Nikos as I saw a topic on the ISI forum about it, posted by Marcel.
Btw; you're right about the championship standings, but it was meant as a guideline as it gives a (rough) indication.
40 seconds is pretty respectable too; should not give much trouble.

A thought that just came to mi mind. First drivers to go out will find a greener track than drivers starting by the end.

There is no realroad at this track, you are always driving a green track.
I will go sit in the middle and leave a 30 second interval. I don't want drivers waiting losing focus on the chat.

Yeah...always green track. I was wondering why I never saw rubber build up, but I definitely understood when the rain had no effect (that's because of missing realroad also, isn't it?). Looking at old photos I actually saw a lot of mud on the track, so I think the grip we will have is quite accurate.
Good choice Marcel
Btw, how are you going to do to randomize the starting order?

Lol, no way mate ;D
But I'm beginning to get a rough idea... I can remember the 3 towns and most part between the 1st and 2nd. The part between 2nd and 3rd town is really hard though... so fast.
Still have a few sneaky corners that wants to kill me. But I think it's important to remember landmarks. After each bridge and other recognizable stuff, I can remember a fair amount of the approaching corners.
