TAGELE Sprint - Race reports, chat etc.
#21
Apologies once again for the warmup and grid issues for R2. Cruicky took a long time to rejoin after his usual unexplained ejection on session changes and then Mel exited too.

I was advised that I needed to (and could) re-run the grid set tool after late arrivals but we ended up with a slightly mixed-up grid after I tried to replace Mel (Ed and I were correctly at the back though). I didn’t want to delay or mess us around further so let the race start…

A bit of chaos on lap 1 (!)

There was no one out of place. The grid was perfect, everyone was in correct places I've just looked. But we need more training for the user of the grid software but Big Grin Wink . Do it at the end of warmup when everyone is in the room and all be good.

Race 1
I was robbed end of 1st race. Battling with Myles for 2nd place. Last lap, 2nd last corner I turned in too soon and cut it. Drive through penalty with no prior warnings before that. Because I could not do a drive through on the last lap it gave me a huge time pen and put me 6th.

Race 2
2nd Race Reverse grid starting 6th.
Got going with a good`ish start. Then straight away I get hit by an out of control car, crushing me in to the wall. Lost my front bumper.
Car still drivable but.
I got passed a few drivers, even Ed as he was battling with some one else, I got lucky there.
I thought Jon was going to give me a hard time to pass him but he just let me by, that was nice of him.
Myles 5 seconds in front in the lead I could only match his speed, there was no catching up and I finished 2nd.
Good recovery after big crash.

Cu in next one.

Race 1 as expected I was last running close to the other Javelin then Mel had an issue, and I did not get past him so ended last.
Race two started first and did ok for a cpl. laps got passed by two fast guys then got bumped and ended in the wall had to drive the rest of the race damaged only lucky Mel had worse luck than me I finished 10th. bonus points help now on to Mustang.

I think it might be an all-Mustang grid at Indi!

Round 3 Riverside Report

Race 1
Myles gave chase for most of this and put in a stonking fastest lap, but thankfully I held position.

Race 2
As usual with these sprint races, the second race was much more eventful. I started at the back of the grid and avoided the initial incident. Made up a few places and unfortunately tapped @Ricknau (sorry!) but thankfully his quick reactions prevented his car from spinning. Then @DJCruicky was on my tail. He made an ambitious move into the last corner and it worked, and immediately after that I was awarded a drive through penalty for cutting the track, not sure where. I flustered a bit as the pit entry was right there and could have driven much faster through the pits but then regained my composure and carried on, but sure what position now. Had a great dice with Stig and eventually got past to take 3rd position. @DJCruicky was too far ahead so this was where I finished. Absolutely adore driving these cars. Congratulations on the win, @Mr Fox (Myles7).

First Race
Had a good start and got alongside DJ but he had the inside line for the first corner so had to backout and slip in behind , pushed him for a few laps but then tyres started to give way so i dropped away , mega surprised to finish third due to DJs bad luck with the Stewards .

Race 2
Got a good start but then got baulked by Rick , next minute i was in a Rick/Mel sandwich , Mels car was trying to mate with mine and stuck on top of me , his advances were rejected and i dropped in behind Cookie , battled with him for a couple of laps then misjudged my braking at the chicane and spun him off (sry) pulled over and waited for him to pass then rejoined battle , eventually got past when he went wide on last turn , ED was 9 secs ahead so i thought thats it , then i started to reel him in as he was engaged in a big battle with Jonathan who is very good at putting his car where you dont want it , this allowed me to join them , i think my arrival spooked Ed who spun at the last corner i was just thanking the racing Gods when i had a freeze , when i got my car back i was spinning out of pit entry so Ed repassed  . Next lap i caught Rick exiting the pits so had a little dice for a couple of laps until i got past and away to the finish .
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

I didn't have any battles with Jonathan or spins so it must have been another Mustang?

Just checked replay and it was Rick , when i checked positions it said you were ahead of me then i swopped to tyre view so i presumed it was still you ahead

For my part, I was surprised to Qualy 2nd for R1 as I’d been really struggling in my afternoon practice.

R1 was pretty straightforward to start with - Ed and I got away well at the front and kept out of trouble for quite a while - but I started to wear out (or overheat + not sure as I only look at the live timing chart while racing) the front left and Cruicky crept up on me. Got a little messy defending on worn tyres but I *think* it was all ok (I’m away for a few days and can’t check the replays) - I knew the last lap was going to be tough though - hope I didn’t force Cruicky into his expensive cut (?)

R2 - lucky start - chaos everywhere but I (largely) managed to avoid it (might have kissed a couple of cars coming through, but if so, they were already out of control). I think the running order was Jonathan followed by Tim and Giorgio in the Javelins? The latter two weren’t *too* hard to get by (that pesky right-left onto the back straight is tricky though and the Mustang wasn’t a guaranteed shoe-in to out drag them). Jonathan was likely to give up his position come the back straight but ran wide early in the next lap and I was safe through.

I had to push quite hard to maintain the gap to the bumperless Cruicky - quite how he kept up that pace with (presumably understeer), I don’t know. Very glad to get another win though!

Yes, that was me and Jonathan going at it. Multi-lap battle with me trailing him. I could get partial overlap of him down the long back straight but just couldn't squeeze past in the banked final turn. Then I got a drive-through. Arrgh! Good racing Jonathan.

I need to read up on how the game awards penalties.

It’s been the trickiest track for cuts so far! I can’t easily allow more cut-points for R2 either (without restarting the server) so R2 will always require more care than R1.

I wish the game would display permanantly in a box what your points-against count is. After a violation I see the notice of "cut track" or what ever foul has been detected followed by "calculating" but then no verdict or notice of accumulated points-against. If it's there then I haven't noticed it, and if it is there but disappears then that's no good. Needs to be there permanently so one can read it at their "leisure".

Dunno if it shows up in the ‘penalties’ page of the on screen display…. Haven’t checked.

If you see a calculating box, and get no verdict message afterwards then it means it has decided you have not cut (or gained time) and should give you no points.

For a cut, normally it would take 0.25 points off you, but in this race it took off 2 points for a cut and that gave instant drive-through penalty. 4 drivers in the 2 races had drive throughs (Stig Bidstrup was the 4th one), don't know if you guys had a build up of cuts before hand or if it was like mine.

It’s not a flat 0.25 - it really does vary according to the severity and the calculation of how much you are perceived to have gained. Ed and I have picked up anything between 0.25 to 0.75 or even 1.0 for single incidents.

The cut you did, Cruicky, was probably harshly scored as I guess on that part of the track, you’d have not lifted. The points I got (for the latter parts of the esses after the start) were under a lifting/partial throttle - so I guess the algorithm credits you for at least looking like you’re trying…

duhh... Thanks DJ. Perfect. A screen I usually cycle past to get to tires or race position.

Well I, for one, thought that was a cracking change!

R1 went well - trading places with Ed at the front and pretty much lucking in to being ahead at the final turn.

R2 was harder work + but a couple of crashes saw me climb the grid.

I filled my tank for the start (as did Jonathan) and kept going beyond half distance. I thought I had enough to do 17 laps but ran out on the in lap and coasted into the pits. The concentration required to actually stop in the box with no fuel resulted in a speeding penalty. Plus I had to restart the engine. Then I spun on my out lap (I tried to change the two right tires but think I only did the FR + so the RR was worn). Did the stop to, dropped to 8th, was catching John Cook and tried to take him on the outside but we touched, ended up in the wall with John on his side. I waited for the car to be righted but John eventually quit so I carried on. Apologies, John, if that was my fault rather than an incident - haven’t looked back at it yet.

good stuff anyway. A nice change.

Indy Brickyard

I had a lot of fun in both races. Mid pack with lots of dueling. Great track choice Myles IMO!!

Race 1 - Jonathan and I passed and re-passed several times in the first race. He overtook me on the next to last lap which allowed me to make the final overtake on the last lap for the "win". Hard but clean racing. Thumbs-up Jonathan.

Race 2 - I hit Seb in the rear about lap 5 and ended up running up underneath his car. Very sorry Seb. Myles feigned a move underneath me in T3 and I balked, pushed wider than I planned which put me into you. Glad you could continue and have a decent finish.

Great fun racing at this venue , edge of the seat stuff all the way through .
Race 1
Started OK but started a love affair with the wall when i went into turn 3 too fast , had a strange occurance with Jonathan , i was close on his tail exiting turn 2 and was thinking of a pass when he just disappeared and then reappeared 2 cars behind me ?
I was lapping quickly and caught DJ and STig battling away , so i joined the party , got past them both but couldnt break the tow so they swallowed me up again , then i caught the wall in turn 1 on 2 laps which dropped me away from the battle .

Race 2
Got a good start and carefully battled my way through the pack where there was a lot of close but respectfull racing going on , eventually managed to break clear and chased down Jonathan and DJ, had a good battle with them both and managed to get the lead but the power of the Mustangs would not let me get away , Followed DJ into the pits for our stops but blew it by changing all tyres instead of just the outsides so DJ gained a lot of time on me , came out in clear air and a lap or so later caught Jonathan , for the rest of the race we had a mighty battle which was great fun , coming of the last corner Jonathan lifted which gifted me 2nd .

Yeah, Jonathan reported over the audio that the warp had happened. Interesting that both sides of the event sound identical - ‘usually’ the experiences can be quite different.

If I remember, I’ll try to have a look at the server log to see if anyth8ng showed up. Jonathan did report that the chat box did appear with the warping message we now get on the startline.

Ed forgot to restart his rf2 for the second race and I couldn’t reasonably restart warmup yet again (note to self, disable the ‘start race after grid sort’ checkbox in Cruicky’s race management tool…) - Ed decided to give it a go anyway in case the new build solved his 90-100 minute crash. It didn’t.:mad:
