I know some former GPL players/modders who went the AC route, and lately I've been noticing videos of so much historic content that I've been thinking I need to get back into it. A content manager sounds like a godsend! The annoying thing about AC was always seeing cars/tracks being used online and then having to go find where to get them and install them yourself. Some of the most fun I ever had in sim racing was two occasions (only two!) when I encountered someone else capable of driving the Maserati 250F. Side by side through corners both in a four-wheel drift...

Well the good news is that we will always endeavour to provide links to content and version numbers etc.

I’m intrigued by AC mainly due to the graphical candy - I’ve not been too keen on the FFB but willing to give it a run.

An example of some of the truly historic content made for AC.

You might like this as well. It's very immersive.

Thanks - I’ll give them a go offline first. I suspect my F1-style rim is going to be a bit of a hindrance - still, it’ll be handy for advance/retard and mixture controls!Wink

I’ll also try to put something fresh on the server today - we’ve got the official add-on packs (Porsche packs, dream-car packs etc.) to download.

We’ve had quite a few visitors to the test server - which is encouraging.

Ok - four of these cars are up and running on our SR4L AC server - running at Donington 1938. Enjoy.

Strange thing this. Before I joined SR4L I ran in a league that used RF2. They dropped it and went to AC, but my old system could not run it. So I found you guys. Later I got a new (to me) PC which ran RF2, AC and iRacing maxed out. Later I got VR; AC and iRacing still ran well with a few tweaks. Unfortunately RF2 did not run so well, whether this is because it has no native support for my Rift or I just haven't got it set up right I don't know. The long and tall of it is that now AC runs well and looks great (even in VR) and RF2 struggles and looks nowhere near as good as it did before I got VR. I have tried going back to a 24" monitor but first lap I crashed into the end of the pit wall.

I was astonished at the VR performance - it’s been maybe 18 months to two years since I stopped using my Rift in rf2 (along with Jonathan) as we were getting fed up with how much eye candy you needed to turn off compared to the same card running triples.

Dug the rift out yesterday on Jonathan’s suggestion and even with the full-fat paid-for (but still WIP) rain effects, at night, on a full grid of Porsches - it ran brilliantly well in AC… Can’t wait for the paid-for RainFX/Sol to work online as well as offline (I understand you can currently force the rain to work from the client side using a tag in a welcome.json file, but it’s not really a solution…)

Right - back to the test server - would appreciate your collective thoughts on the current track and cars with a view to running a fun race soon-ish. The choice of out-there cars is deliberate (partly to highlight the vast array of content readily available). I chose the first almost-contemporary track I found (after trying the old Monza - which was, frankly, a bit pants in these cars). There might be a more suitable 20s/30s-era track out there….?

So, how do I find the AC server? I'm using the AC Content Manager. I click on "Online" and get a huge list of servers that are sorted by name. I scroll to where the "S"s are and don't see anything. I found an SR4L test server once, but it no longer is online. I know I'm overlooking something obvious. Rolleyes Thanks for the help. I'll give some feedback once I get on.

If you’re using the Content Manager, you should find a magnifying-glass icon at the top-right of the server list. If you type ‘sr4l’ (no quotes) in there, it should filter down to our server.

The full name of the server currently is SR4LAC_Server as in the attached screenshot of the LiveRacers page. I can’t guarantee it will always stay the same, but ‘SR4L’ will always be included as a searchable term in the title.

ps - it would be good to try and get enough valid laps in a single session to generate the track map - *almost* managed it yesterday but ‘wasted’ time trying out one of the slower cars and didn’t get close enough to the qualifying lap time…

Ok - can you:

a) confirm at what (preferably Uk) time you tried this and,
b) confirm what version of CSP you are running?

Earlier today (can’t remember when - on,y a few hours ago I think), I enforced the CSP version on the server (to 1614 from memory - there may be decimals in there) for weather purposes…

Also worth checking your local version numbers of the track and cars - at least two people (other than myself) have managed to connect (prior to my changes today, anyway…)

Hey Jimmy Smile

I also have problems joining thru Content Manager..
So I use the default AC game instead ( No problems there ).

These 4 cars are on the server : Rolland_Pilain A22 (1923 ) , Fiat 805 405 ( 1923 ) , Sunbeam Grand Prix (1923 ) , Delage 2L cv ( 1923

All cars can be found on Racedepartment.

Kind regards Stig....

I tried joining through AC and it just stopped and returned me to the main menu. Thanks, Stig.

Myles, I tried to join right before the times I posted on this thread, probably about 2:00 AM UTC.
I don't know anything about "CSP". Is the link in the first post? What do I do with it? Content Manager seems helpful at times, and overly complex and arcane at other times. I'm hoping your assistance in this thread will help others as well. Thank you.

Thanks for the reports.

First of all, I’ll try to see if there’s anything obviously wrong on the server side.

Bruce - I’ll update the links in the first post, but for completeness, CSP can be found here: http://Linky

It’s well worth installing - it can really up the graphical experience with very little impact on resources. It’s also a pre-requisite for some of the real eye-candy.

If you like what you see, you can bung the author (Iija) a quid a month on Patreon and gain access to the pre-release versions that are truly eye-opening… (random YouTube example here).

Those of us that have tried it have been blown away by the RainFX in particular - and have been astounded that they work so well even in VR (when rf2 struggles to function even in the dry)… While we’re here, there are some experimental features built into CM that tie the grip to the weather conditions- I’ve done a bit of offline testing at Brands in the wet in the Porsche 911 RSRs and it’s glorious how the wheels spin up etc. when you hit puddles….Cool

I don’t plan to enforce paid-for versions of any technical add-ons though (other than perhaps some of the very-affordable official content packs), but for offline use I can heartily recommend them.

I’ll report back later on the server…
Cool
