1976 F1 Season - Round 6 Monte Carlo REPORTS
#1
Another "high" finish, P6, for me. Near PB qualy lap put me P9 on the grid. Par for the course. It's Monaco, overtaking is near impossible. Every position I gave up was due to a bobble on my part. Every position I gained was through someone else's bobble. So main trick is to NOT bobble!

Had fun battles with Fergy, Tobias, Shannon, Parzoe. Sorry Shannon for crunching you in the accordion at last turn. No way I could stop. (Edit: Sorry, got my wrecks mixed up, this was when you slowed for Tobias. No accordion effect.) I waited for a couple of seconds to let you get back by but it looked like you disappeared. I see you finished the race so I don't know what happened there.

Edit2: Later I got crunched between Fergy Gorka and Parzoe at the same corner. Apparently no (or not much) damage to any of us. Then Parzoe hounded me for 20 laps, almost to the end.

In the end Parzoe must have bobbled and left a big gap behind me so I just needed to cruise it on home on the one set of tires. I really would have liked to have stopped but no way I was going to give up the track position. Same for everybody I guess.

I think J Cook got P8 so a respectable team finish!

Never thought I would make it to the finish here. Was seeing better times in TRaining after going for more ride height. Q was ok with P9, no PB but close.
Setup was rather forgiving and I had quite a few training laps. That paid off in consistency. two spins but no major damage taken. Chasing Cookie for 10 or so laps until he finally made a mistake. That meant P7 for finish.
It felt like a long race, almost had to fight with motion sickness even without VR glasses from all the changing backrounds. Glad to have made it to the finish.
Do you even lift?

Unfortunately I missed the start of the race. I joined hoping I would be able to enter the race albeit a few laps down. No luck though, my first non attendance. BTW what laps did people do? I ran a quick lap about 10 and I think it was about 1:54. I know that is not good as I did it in 1:33 GPL.

Resident aliens did 1:35s in qualy. Mid-packers did 1:36-1:37.

Lack of practice, lack of practice, lack of practice

That was my real problem, so I finally ended up losing concentration and hitting a tire wall, which are like magnets. Big damage, tried to drive a hard to control car for the remaining 12 laps but ended up crashing again so decided to retire.

yea was doing good for quite a while then with about 10 to go I hit tire wall and knocked front wing off so end of race I kept looking in mirror for people passing me. Finished 13. You guys were really fast no way for me to compete.

Phew this was a hard one , minor lapses in concentration cost you dearly , a couple of senior moments wrecked my strategy .

I decided to run the race on hard tyres as according to Carstat the hards gave more grip when hot than the softs so it would help with braking and keep me out of the barriers , this should have meant I came strong in the later part of the race , sadly for me brain fade meant I collected the barriers a couple of times which damaged the rear , by mid race I was struggling with too much oversteer , the final straw was coming across Gorka broadside across the track at the Swimming pool I braked hard to avoid but I saw him too late and hit him but even worse DJ was right behind and could not avoid hitting my rear hard which increased the damage and from then on it made it difficult to get the power down , there was only 4 laps to go so decided to limp home .

I am not convinced about the accuracy of Carstat , according to it specs the Mac is more powerfull and more aerodynamic than the Brabham but I could see that ontrack the Mac does not seem able to match the top end speeds .

I decided to do a crude test on the long striaght at Nurburgring , both cars same gearing / fuel / height / tyre pressures and minimum aero , I run the wrong way down the track until I got to the exit curve on the last corner , turned and started my run from there , the finish was the bridge

the Brabham was consistently 4km quicker on top end over 3 runs , so I think the reality is that the Mac is about 10 horse down on the Brabham and not 30 hp more which is the figure Carstat states , this made me wonder if Carstat presents the actual or the historical figures , as to the accuracy of the tyre info i cant honestly say as i had damaged the car so that affected how the tyres performed .
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

What is the drag data shown by carstat2? I think carstat2 calculates data from what the car has in it's files.

Game froze when first joined and on lap 20. I guess that's considered a mechanical failure.
