BT20 LEAGUE - ROUND 8 - NURBURGRING - REPORTS
#1
A great racing Sunday gone bad for me. Was doing low 7:40s pretty consistently. Had a great qualifying lap going when a lightning storm in my area dropped my connection. We have crappy DSL that is real finicky when the weather is bad. Got back online for race but have to start at the back, on a track that is nigh-on impossible to pass on. But somehow I managed to catch up to Shannon (my in-league rival with one point separating us!). I draft him on the long straight at the end of lap 3 and get maybe a half car length ahead when I get kicked off! ARRGH! I gotta say though that that 3rd lap with me following him and both uf us driving really well under pressure was the most enjoyable lap I've ever done at the Ring.

Race 2. So I start at very near the back again. And of course jockeying was really tough because of that no-pass track characteristic. But somehow on lap 2 me and Shannon end up together again (albeit at the back of the pack this time). But this could be fun none the less. Except after getting sloppy and loosing a few seconds to him my freaking car ran out of fuel!!! WTF! I had my race fuel setup "assigned"! So how in the heck can that happen? I double checked after quitting and yea-verily the race setup was assigned. @#$^%&^$!

Edit: Can a car be damaged in such a way to leak fuel? Is that a thing with rF2? There can be no other explanation.

Edit 2: I forgot to add my thanks to all the admin and various other helpful guys that make this league happen season after season. Thanks to all of you!

I came into the week with the intention of beating Rick by 1 spot both races. Nothing else mattered.
I qualied crappy because I did the "right gate thing" and nursed the car the whole lap, then discovered that was my only shot. Lesson learned.

Race 1 was a great start by all. Totally pro. I worked my way through the pack and had some breathing room. Till Harri made a little mistake and I got in front of her. She breathed down my neck for the next lap I just tried to not choke under pressure. I pitted next lap and Rick came in right behind me. DAMNIT! Tongue I got out first but by the end of lap three he was poised to overtake me on the long straight. Then....Disco'd. That is NOT the way I wanted the battle to go down. You would've had me, Rick.

Race 2 was a bit of a disaster as my head wasn't in it after the weird start. Sorry to Dan(?) for tagging you. I thought I slowed down enough, but I guess not. Total rookie crap.
On lap 2 I came flying up on John and Rick right after they had to slow down for an incident. I tried to pass Rick on the left but the room just wasn't there. Wreck #2. After the incidentI slowed down give Rick the position back but he never came. Thought it was a ragequit from damage, but I guess it was the fuel thing Smile

My car was jacked so I just tried to get the car home and let everyone pass me rather than cause another incident.

Teamie Dan finally got everything dialed in and scored his 3rd podium in a row. Super Terrific Happy Fun Time Racing will be in full force next season Smile

Thanks to Paul, Gorka, Nikos, Tim, DJ and everyone else who ran the show and gave us yet another fun season!
When in doubt, pass out.

After a long time with no sim racing and no time to practice I was excited to go to the ring. Driving there is always enjoyable I just had to control the beast that is the BT20. I only could practice a couple hours the day before all while being very tired.

Qualy: I was late and could not attend.

Race 1: Starting 12th, I had a slow start, made 4 laps, no mistakes, ended 7th.

Race 2: Starting 3rth, loosing a place during the formation start due to confusion with the guy in front not taking off. I did not try to regain it to avoid more confusion. After the real start I quickly found myself behind Tim. He was all over the place using all the road and I was lacking talent and pace to make a clean pass. The more I tried, the more I tough I had to take risk to make it happen, and the more dangerous it got. After a full lap and 100 aborted attempts at passing I got surprised by how much he braked for flugplatz and could not stop, I put my car in the wall in a attempt not to run in the back of him. Race over.

Good fun, a bit difficult but all the more rewarding when getting to the end of a race. Thanks to all for the season.

Thank you and I am sorry I was just trying to survive the day. And How the hell do you guys know all those names I don't even know what a Flugplatz is,lol. I will look at replay to see where I caused you to wreck I think I might have caused a problem for Harri also.

No need to apologize, you did nothing wrong. The responsibility to make a clean pass lies onto the driver making the pass. And just surviving is a challenge by itself so passing was bound to be dangerous.

Race 1

Got a good start and managed to edge away from DJ , I guessed he was running fuel heavy as normally he would be all over me at Nords so decided to just push hard and hope I gained enough time for when he came out of the pits , fortunately despite a couple of small offs I just managed to pass him as he exited the pits , as my tyres were already up to temp this allowed me to hold position and get the win ,WOOHOO

Race 2
The start went a lot better than expected , but I got collected by a spinning car at Kesselchen and hit the barriers , got going again car appeared mostly OK but had more oversteer and was down on top end by 3kmh.

I pitted on lap 1 hoping to gain track space then I could lap quickly , came out of the pits and blew the plan by messing up my braking for Hohenrain and spinning out , this let Cookie pass so chased him and managed to get passed I then came up to Harri and Tobias , my car was heavy so couldnt get the exits out of the corners I wanted , stayed behind until Harri made a mistake at ExMuhle this let me through and I was onto Tobias who I tried to outbrake going into Bergwerk, but ,I only managed to outbrake myself so hit the barriers , car didnt seem any more damaged so chased and caught them at the Karousel , Tobias slide out wide taking Harri with him and leaving me a huge hole to aim for , I didnt need to think I just went for it , after that I caught and passed Tim and tried to catch Daniel but he had too much of a lead , finally finished 4th .

Well Teamie Tim we did it Wrinklies are top dog , for now thanks to the points you brought home, but C&N racing will be after our blood next time .

Hard luck Rick I was looking forwards to you and Shannon battling hard , I reckon Shannon paid some of his local Native Americans to do a rain dance aimed at Florida Smile

Your problems with fuel could be down to the damage you sustained if your fuel setup was marginal .

I found the fuel consumption on this car could vary greatly according to driving style , I set the car up running high gearing and drove it short shifting to keep the rears cool this gave me 44lts per lap but if I used the revs this consumption shot up to 49ltrs , so potentialy a car with wheels out of line could be a thirsty beast .

Well done DJ a very worthy champ again (dammit)WinkSmileSmile . I really started to enjoy this season once i began to understand the car and wouldnt mind doing it again on different tracks but definately not Monaco

Big thanks to Paul / Gorka / DJ / and Teamie Tim for another great season and to all the regulars who turn up and make SR4L fun
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

That is if I could have held it together for that final lap with out messing up... and not given it up with you drafting me on the final straight. But I tell ya, I was in the zone! Man, if we could have had that battle!...

Well my fuel wasn't marginal. I started with 3 laps worth and ran out at about 1.5 laps. It's inexsplicable unless I ruptered a tank, which I've never heard of happening before.

And oh yes... my congrats too to the Wrinckly Racers! Maybe we'll get you next time!

You would've dusted me. You were on FIRE! You gained over two seconds in the last split heading into the pits. I was driving scared. Tongue
When in doubt, pass out.

I agree whole heartedly. I love this car. It's pretty widely acclaimed to be on of ISI's best.
