So I found you guys. Later I got a new (to me) PC which ran RF2, AC and iRacing maxed out. Later I got VR; AC and iRacing still ran well with a few tweaks. Unfortunately RF2 did not run so well, whether this is because it has no native support for my Rift or I just haven't got it set up right I don't know. The long and tall of it is that now AC runs well and looks great (even in VR) and RF2 struggles and looks nowhere near as good as it did before I got VR. I have tried going back to a 24" monitor but first lap I crashed into the end of the pit wall.I was astonished at the VR performance - it’s been maybe 18 months to two years since I stopped using my Rift in rf2 (along with Jonathan) as we were getting fed up with how much eye candy you needed to turn off compared to the same card running triples.
Dug the rift out yesterday on Jonathan’s suggestion and even with the full-fat paid-for (but still WIP) rain effects, at night, on a full grid of Porsches - it ran brilliantly well in AC… Can’t wait for the paid-for RainFX/Sol to work online as well as offline (I understand you can currently force the rain to work from the client side using a tag in a welcome.json file, but it’s not really a solution…)
Right - back to the test server - would appreciate your collective thoughts on the current track and cars with a view to running a fun race soon-ish. The choice of out-there cars is deliberate (partly to highlight the vast array of content readily available). I chose the first almost-contemporary track I found (after trying the old Monza - which was, frankly, a bit pants in these cars). There might be a more suitable 20s/30s-era track out there….?
