USF2000 League - Round 7 - Sebring - Reports
#3
Not a good weekend for me.
In qualifying I was able to get second place in the very final moments after lots of setup changes (Kristijan, by the end of the season you should let us check your setups, I can't figure out how you can get so much front grip even when close to a car in front)

Race 1
Race start was a bit of unexpected (first siren sounded, not the second nor the third and suddenly we were green flagged). This helped Kristijan and me get cleanly through the first corners with a gap to the men behind. As laps went by gaps increased, I was like 5 seconds behind K and 10 seconds ahead of DjC. It was time for my pitstop (end of lap 5), but being in a comfortable position I didn't want to risk getting out from the pits in traffic so I stayed one more lap on track.
Bad idea, I entered the pits at the same time as K but found we were both sharing the same pit box. As I slowed down and approached him I saw there was no way to get a piece of my car inside the red box so I aborted the pitstop and went back to the track. The next lap I did my pitstop (35 sec) but exited a few seconds behind DjC. I got close to him but I struggled a lot with front grip behind his turbulence.
Seing Mel was way behind I risked a lot more in the final lap kissing the grass at the exit of turn 4 and going into the barriers ripping my front wing.
I slowly finished my lap and ended the race still in third place.

Race 2
Started safely in the traffic in the first laps. I was behind Mel in third place when I saw him go wide at the entry of turn 1 so I pushed hard in the inside. But in the acceleration I lost some grip and went into his line touching him, my apologies.
I just kissed the barriers in the action, but suddenly I saw how part of my front wing was ripped off. Race went on, car still driveable. It was lap 4 so I decided to try to do an overcut on the cars ahead. I pitted and went out in no traffic pushing very hard. Three laps later the overcut worked and went into turn 1 ahead of a good bunch of drivers (aiming for a second place in the race). But at turn 4 pushing hard again kissed the grass, went into the barriers and got the rest of my front wing ripped and damaged suspension.
At this moment I preffered to retire the car and go for a shower after a sweaty event.
