OK Jesus, you probably talked about R1 T1 and yes sorry that was my mistake. I was slow but too wide. I was concerned to my right side too and did not noticed you passed through the outer side. fortunately, not the worst on your side, you saved it. was there a damage?
again sorry
mixed feelings after the event.
I finished both races and it is good.
but I was slow and uneasy far from my training laps...
but yeah I would not bet any coin I am in finish in both races...

Hi Axe,
Do not worry about that, I don't think you did anything wrong there, my R1 was really good and didn't get any damage, just felt a little touch. The reason for me being so slow in T1 was my setup, it was very good for me after first lap but I was not able to feel grip at all in T1 in first lap, that was why I was so careful there. Tongue

My concern was the start on R2, there was an accident in front of me, a car hit the right barrier and was moving to the left, I thought for a millisecond I was safe because the car seemed to keep on moving to the left side...but it suddenly stopped right in the middle, I hit the brakes but touched that car anyway...then I felt a hard hit from behind, I couldn't believe it...rfactor2 "collision" engine sent me flying to the swimming pool, I think that our speed was too slow for such a huge response from the game. That was why I thought the one behind didn't even brake and hit me so strong. I got angry...but this is online gaming and you can't be sure what others see on "their" view of the game. Now I am cool, I think all of us make mistakes, I do them very often and, of course, none of us wants to do "bad" to others. Shit just happens Wink

Great race we had at Monaco.

I did my PB (1:29) during qualification, which I'm quite happy about. However, even after practicing a lot, especially during the last days and mostly offline, I can't really understand how it's possible to do 1:22 :-)

Ok that I suck at driving 60s F1s, ok that I'm getting old :-), ok that I lack the basics in driving technique, but still it's seven seconds!
So now that the race is over, my question to the 1:22-23 folks is this: would you please share your exact quali (not race) setup for Monaco?

That would give me a chance to isolate out the setup factor, for which I know I struggled a lot for this one.
Then, everyone drives in their own way, so it's maybe not that easy to jump in a car with a totally alien setup, but still.

It's all about taking the chicane in higher speed than one can imagine is possible... At least for me. I had no advantage in the hairpins... ask Marcel Tongue He had so much more grip than me that I had to compensate through the chicane and Tabac corner. When doing my 1,22's I was going through chicane in 5th gear and 180-190 km/h with only centimeters to the walls (I swear it looked like I even touched them sometimes when watching the replay), and at Tabac I was extremely close to the inside armco.

Earlier this week I was using an old setup I made several months ago. It did not work the tires very well but I did 1,23's with it. Later, when I saw Marcel's speed, I began to change a few things... I experienced very different grip every day with same setup. Friday I had 6 different setups with same laptimes, but they all felt different each day. In the end, my setup was default except gears, low steering lock (as always), lowest tire pressure, front toe -40, caster 4,9, stiffer dampers (like 7 front and 5 rear) and brake bias to 59-41. It was really stable but lacked grip in hairpins.

What you want at the chicane at the very point of turn in is you not pressing brake pedal. Because if you do you shift the weight of the car to the front wheels, making your steering very in-precise or unstable. So slow to desired speed, then foot off brake and pray. Imo. Big Grin

I had only one setup all week with some minor changes in between, yes you guessed it, the go-kart setup Tongue

Exactly Smile I brake just before the hill, resolute but not too hard... then release brake when turning in. I prefer to accelerate through the chicane. Car is more stable under gentle throttle.
Actually it's not even a chicane. I see it as a tiny tiny passage that I can go straight through, with minor wheel movement.

Cosimo I had Marcel's setup (a great one thank you M Wink ), I did exactly as the guys above say, my best was a flat 1:28 and they did 1:22s.

Many times during practice I watch how these guys drive, I go incar with them and I check if Im using the right gear changes.
Usually I do it right but still my laps are vastly slower.
Their secret is, they dont have a secret.
They are just faster in every corner. they enter better and they go out better and this adds up.

A very interesting thing to notice is that at fast tracks with less turns, as Monza, our difference with the fast guys is very small, while at tiny places with many bends like Monaco, the difference is huge.

Yes Nikos, I agree with you 100%.
I do that too (watching in-car, gears, etc...) but I'm still a lot slower.

My conclusion too was, I think I mentioned it, that they *are* just faster.
My hope is that I'll get there too, maybe not 1:22, but 1:25-6.

I can already see a noticeable improvement since my first SR4L days :-)
I've also just started using the shifter (at TWS), so it's been a nice ride so far Smile

Anyway, "to finish first is important to first finish". One step at a time.

I think you are progressing fast, my advice is, dont even watch fast guys times, just get into your rythm and eventually you will turn faster and faster.

I agree on that Nikos. Eventually we will beat them :Smile Even if it takes us 10 years 8)
