1976 F1 Season - Round 7 Botniaring REPORTS

Love the track, race was pretty boring for me. Qualified P8, finished P11. Got up to P7 but had hard challenges coming from behind. Was fighting the tires REALLY HARD and at lap 20 decided I just couldn't bare to go 20 more like that, even if it meant giving up a lot of time/position. Came out of pits P12 and held that pretty much the rest of the way until Dan had an off and I got P11 with 15 or so laps to go. After first stint I had no close contenders and just watched the lap counter go up waiting for 40... or in my case 39 was all I needed!

39 here also wow they are fast.
Got a boot lap 1 fell way back but was able to keep going and moved from 18th to 9th at one point but toward end Cookie came flying up on me and went on by, I was able to challenge him some but could not pass ended 10 not bad. Well done with a 2 teamie

Stalled on the start so by the time I had restarted the engine the field had gone. Couple of cars came off and I passed them but was soon repassed. Had a bit of a touch at the hairpin but no damage. Got a S&G for cutting the pits and then another when I left the pits, had to change tires. lapping around 1:40 so was lapped a few times, but pleased to finish in the points. Nice racing and not being damaged by other drivers like in iRacing; although I do win a few times there (mostly restrictor plate tracks), unlike with SR4L. All fun though, and I get to keep my eye in with a manual box with clutch (real car is a DSG).

Held up the Rat Racing flag one more time, not too much time for training but got below 1:30 on saturday, so I was confident to not be dead last on race day. Qualified 6th ("best of the rest", 5th was around a second faster). Never tried a race simulation so I started off fuelled to the finish (I thought).

Got somewhat clean through the first laps, despite pressing the wrong button which reset my VR position right after the start. Also my pedals lost one of those rubber things it stands on, so I had to live with some instability down there. At one point I made it up to fifth place! But after lap 17 or so it dawned on me that the tyres would not last the distance, so I decided to pit early and try to be kind to the rubber afterwards to the finish. Pitstop was unremarkable, but I got a few seconds on the car behind me that pitted at the same time. Things settled again, I tried to not take too many curbs, not locking up and keep a consistent lap time. At some point I realized that I did not have enough fuel to make it to the end (I calculated it with an old setup that did not rev as high, appearantly), so I had to do another fuel only stop.

Running confortably in 6th, that was... tough. Well, only myself to blame. I did it and after things settled down to the end I managed to bring it home in 8th. Not bad for the lack of training and the fuelling mistake. Other than that, this is a fun little track, tiny + tricky. I did not make serious mistakes, only going wide a few times.

Team mate Ramon did not show up because his home is being renovated so he had to move out into a temporary location, wheel and everything packed up in boxes. He did do a few laps though during the week, so not all is lost. After the next race I will be gone to Lisboa for three months, so no racing for me, but I should be back towards the end of the season.

That was good fun , had a nice dice with JP there was very little between us then I made a mistake and half spun at turn 5 hairpin , this allowed him to get away , I could see traffic ahead so I took the gamble to pit early and see if I could get the undercut .

Pit stop was good and I came out on a clear track , things were looking good until my attention wondered and I threw myself at the scenery , no damage but I lost a lot of time , could see DJ ahead and slowly reeled him in we then had a good dice passing and repassing until he made a mistake at turn 1 which allowed me to break away and grab 2nd .

Nice drive Tim you got us some good points , were going to need them .
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

As an adder to my report I saw after the replay that Lor Rezo who bumped me in turn one and not his fault by the way he later waited to let me pass him back very gentlemanly but he didn't have to do it the bump was not his fault
But thanks

I too liked the battle with Dave the first half of the race, I had to stay focused to the maximum.

I originally intended not to change tires but with the pressure of Dave I had to push harder, and the tires were very worn after 26 laps. When I saw that I had enough lead over David to change the tires and come out in front, I did not hesitate to stand out a few seconds ahead. I was able to push at the end of the race. One of my best races for a long time.

Congratulations to all participants and thank you to the admins.
