i tested a bit with wim's 55 car and the F5000 this morning.
wim's 55 F1 was easier to get around at Brianza, seemed fun to drive - i realize it is in the early stages - but i liked it. think down the road, if he throws in a couple of other 55 F1's like Lancia.. ;D
The F5000 is a bit more beasty (not as bad as the T70 though) it will take more time to tame it, but, it did have good sound and watching the other cars on-track is neat. a lot of different cars to choose from.
getting warmer out, so that is where i am going..........

I like the merc , i tried the latest spec its probably got too much grip for realism BUT this adds to the fun in a tight field you can get close with confidence which should make exciting racing .
Did a quick run with a couple of the F5000 , glorious sound but i noticed they exacerbate the tyre temp problems , the tyres run way over temp no matter what pressure you run .
Understeer - is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer - is when you hit the wall with the back of the car
Horsepower - is how fast you hit the wall
Torque - is how far you move the wall when you hit it

It's a shame we're not getting permission to use the W196, would make for a great league.

If the F5000 overheats tires we must start thinking in other car.

F2 Eve vs Spark?
Howston G4 or G6?
Dissenter?
Other?

I just tried F1 75 mod and I think its awsome!!

Great cockpits, great driving, different sounds for each car and 16 teams, anybody can find a unique car to race.

Teams could be assigned by Race Director, fastest in previous season takes the fastest car or the slowest lol, or by chance .

Btw I saw Mauro's name in testing I think?

yes, i helped in beta testing Smile

Postipate is doing a very great work with this conversion.
if you like i can open thread for that mod with performance list of cars

P.S. actual cars are too fast respect 1975 times.
on Kyalami you can turn in 1'09''. 7'' faster than historic times.
a new update is planned to correct that.

Maybe there is a chance to fix it? Tire temps is not my strongest point, but I could have a look at it if chances on this one gets serious.

And something about load transfer during acceleration/braking

I love this mod!

Should be no problem either.

Remember Wim that if a mod has been released, if we tamper with it then other people who have the original cannot join and this is very frustrating.

So, either a mod with permission and download for everybody, or no mod at all.

I always thought the "clutch slip" was just over-zealous shifting .... slow shifting=no clutch slip.

In the interest of period racing ..... surely auto clutch and auto blip should be turned off should it not ?

Im sure you know that clutch is not fully implemented in Rfactor2, even with auto clutch off you can do clutchless gear changes safely.

Some people do use it, I dont, I shift with h-shift but I enjoy left foot braking as well so I dont use the clutch.

I know its not pure period racing, but there are people using paddles too, so..

To be exact, auto clutch was permitted here from the start, to care for people who didnt have a clutch at all, and they were a lot back then when we started.

I see two problems in the "slipping clutch" issue.
You can do a very quick change of gears in perfect combination of clutch, gear lever, throtthe and still end up in a slipping cluth just because you did it faster than some value defined at the car files.
Many cars don't have configured an auto-clutch delay penalty when changing gears, so while you lose some tenths of throttle time every time you shift up to avoid the slipping clutch, drivers using flappy paddles get an almost instant gear change. This ends up in drivers using clutch being handicapped compared to the others.

That is something that has happened to the BT44. When I first tested it at the beginning of the season I did some acceleration tests using manual gears+clutch versus auto-clutch+flappy paddles.
Checking the telemetry at Motec it was abvious how using flappy paddles was faster on acceleration as gear changes happened almost inmediatly whereas using clutch every time a gear was changed there was a gap above 2 tenths of a second where the car wasn't acceleration.

I Don't know if the 75 Formulas have a delay when changing gears using auto-clutch, maybe next week I can start doing a test on them.

I applaud all of you who can realistically drive and use all of the controls as they were intended to be used. I realize you have techniques and skills that I will never have, thus your great speed! All of you that derive your full immersion and enjoyment by using these skills and techniques should not be denied this pleasure and challenge. Wink

That said, for us others (ME) - who just enjoy driving with my limited skills and with paddle shifters and auto clutch - PLEASE do not take that away..
I can only speak for me, but i like the fact that i can drive which ever way i want to, even if that is watching your exhaust ahead of me......

Just To Say.......... Smile

No intention to take away that option.
Even automatic-gears are allowed as we don't require people to have a gear level, a clutch pedal nor flappy padles.

When I speak about it I just want to mean that cars like the BT44 don't seem to have a gear-change delay as others car do and that it can be a little bit unfair.
I said so at the BT44 car's thread at steam but the owner didn't release an update that only require a configuration line, something like "auto-gear-delay:0,200"

Anyway
on rf1 and rf2 you can drive very well with paddles and only 2 pedals with autoblip and autolift disabled.
Simple you map clutch on whell button and use it only on start.
You can upshift and downshift simple using trottle and brake :-)
(Technique used by real F1 drivers at the end of 60' years. I spoke with Silvio Moser F1 mechanic)

i always disable autoclutch when i raced on rf1 and rf2. Turning on engine damage and guys must be obbligated to use correctly gearbox
