Started 24/29 and ended 14/29.
There has been a great accident involving about 10 racers.
That's the explanation ;D
Great race, fair drivers, good organisation and lovely skins.
What else ? Wink
Thanks everybody.

Great turn-out once again Smile

QUALI
Quickly got down to 1:44.8 which was pretty much as fast as I could go without help. It lasted quite long but then not just one or two guys - but three - managed to get down to 44.7 so I was 4th. With a couple of minutes left Robert and I made a last attempt to improve with draft, but we had just one attempt each and we both failed - so 2nd row it was Smile

RACE
Got a good start and quickly moved up to 3rd and stayed in Gorka's draft. Kane was right behind me and Dave who jump started ( :Smile) was leading the race. On the long straight heading down to Parabolica we had massive draft on each other and swapped places. Gorka braked too late so we all passed him and Coyne instantly went for his stop n go/drive through. I got a nice draft from Kane in front of me on the main straight and moved up to 1st. I instantly got a small gap that was enough to keep the guys behind me on the straights. I think they were swapping places for a couple of laps before it was suddenly only DJ left behind me. We had pretty much the same laptimes I think, but it seemed like his tires were dropping off quicker than mine so the gap increased. When I went for my pitstop I was apparently one of the first to do so and dropped to 10-15th place something. Fortunately I had a pretty much emty road so I could quickly find my pace again. From here to finish I can't remember much because nothing special happened. I couldn't see DJ behind me anymore and I had a couple of guys to lap, and I managed to avoid a couple of crashes, that's all. Won the race Smile

Thanks for hosting and fixing the server Paul.

Qualy
-------
I managed a 1.34.9, which was my personal best. A few laps later catched two cars' slipstreams and reached a 1.34.7 which was good enough for second place.

Race
------
Made a good start and saw D Coyne going really fast through the left. By the end of the lap when he went to the pits I realised he had jumped start.
It was a nice battle the first laps but in our fighting we let Rik pull a gap. Had a couple of contacts with K lasky who was a bit aggressively driving both defending and attacking (within limits of legality but still aggressive). We touched in parabolica (no one to blame, race incident) that was enough for DjC to pull ahead in second place and the next one after exiting from the pits ahead of him he hit the rear of my car at Lesmo 1 causing me to hit the wall.
Finally we were DjC, Lasky and me fighting for the second place. David gave me a cooperative aerodinamic push to get to Lasky and then he went for the hunt. I watched at 1.5 second behind them their battle. Not being able to catch them as David was also at Lasky's tail till his finally attempt. I waited there to se if I could get the remains of their battle but luckily for them it didn't end up in tears.
Finally ended in 4th but expected more of the race if we hadn't let Rikard leave. We needed more cooperation and leave fighting to the end of the race.

No way I had expected to get that gap so early - or even at all. It's so hard to leave someone behind when there are only 3 corners where one can make a difference in laptime. Maybe I was 1 tenth quicker than you guys through these corners, and when Kane took the defensive line for the Lesmos on 2nd lap that allowed me to escape :o I was pretty sure you guys would soon be back on my tail but as you said, you needed to cooperate a bit. Actually, I think it was exactly the same thing last time we raced here with the BT20 or EVE when I managed to pull away ;D

Qual as expected toward the back as always just cant improve

race was fun uneventful but for two things early lap I moved over too soon and caught Steve's front wheel sorry for that my mistake. Then I think next to last lap Dan was on me and when I had to lift for another car he got by me and picked up a spot nicely done Dan.

Was fun lots of cars, server worked Thank you Paul for great work hated to see you leave the race early.

No practice no glory :o. hadn't had time to practice at all last week (work is a bitch sometimes) so i started making a setup in the last half hour before the race. I saw everybody being fast as lightning so :-\

Quali:

Don't even know what spot i qualified i think it was 19th or so.

Race:

Start i was doing okay, some accidents happened right in front of me but stayed out of trouble.
After a couple of laps i was behind Tim and Steven Combey (hardtohandle). At one point Tim pulled away from Steve and i catched up on him.
I thought i pushed Steve and me towards Tim but Steve misunderstood and i went on the green stuff (no good :Smile) After that Nikos was behind me and man was he on fire ......great job Nikos Wink leaving me behind like i was standing still. I even thought of stepping out of the car but then realized i was doing 250+ so it wouldn't have been good for my shoes.
After pitting in 20st lap i was in front of the leader who turned out to be Rikard. It took him a while to catch up on me so i thought hmmm my laptimes aren't that bad. He had a gap to second placed and in that gap i drove for several laps.
Kind of a uneventful race for me which i finished in 17th place i think (hope Tim remembers better.)

Server worked like a charm tonight thanks for you hard work Paul.
I like the longer race format and if i looked at the participants tonight i'm not alone in this, maybe we should think about running longer races more often.

Thanks for hosting was a great night.

See you all at Essington

Qualifying:

Ran a 35 flat by myself. Just past halfway though I started looking for a dancing partner, first with David then with DJC, neither of them wanting to team up and escaping in front of me on track. Finally I tried to team up with the Hedlunds who were trying to help each other with less than a minute to go in the session but both of them went to hot into the parabolica, so I just pulled into the pits. Managed to stay on the front row which at this track is just about worthless.

Race:

Wow what an exciting event! We'll I knew Rick had .2 on most of us while alone, but when he slipped up the inside of me in the Curva Grande on the beginning of lap two with DJC right behind me I thought we were going to be in the train for the long haul, or at least until the first pit stop. Heading into the first Lesmo I thought Sebastian was going to try to pass me up the inside. Knowing Rick had the speed on us I broke just a bit too late trying to keep him at bay. I also didn't get the second Lesmo exactly right and Rick was just out of drafting distance. On the back straight Sebastian and DJ C. drafted past me and then DJ C. went up the inside of Sebastian in the parabolica.

The race for the lead was over after that. I don't know if those two were thinking about working together to try to catch Rick like I was but either way we didn't pull it off. On lap four Sebastian went up the inside of me into the parabolica hitting the inside curbing with his right front and sliding out a bit wide into me. Our tires did the lightest of kisses but it was enough to lose 4 seconds to DJ C. in front with Sebastian now 2 seconds behind me.

From here to the pit I ran some good consistent laps cutting the gap to DJ down to about 1.6 when I pitted, with Sebastian about 1.6 behind me. Sebastian made up some time in the pits and came out right in front of me. I didn't give him enough space and touched him going into the first Lesmo. He recovered quickly but then I had a huge scare 2 seconds later. Someone crashing in between the two Lesmos had a part come flying off his car across the track underneath mine lifting all four wheels off the ground and putting me into the wall on the outside of the second Lesmo. Sebastian and I were back to nose and tail again now and a lap or two later DJC came out of the pits and made it a threesome.

We started going through a few lappers at this point. I threw my balls over my shoulder and made a few risky moves. With 12 laps to go I had 1.5 seconds over DJ C. and Sebastian, on lap 29 I made a few mistakes and DJ C. was right with me till the end, with Sebastian just out of drafting distance. DJ played nice until the last lap or two when he just about managed to out drive me from the parabolica to the finish line. .027 was the gap between us at the finish.

Overall super happy with the race and my drive. It's nice to be back on track and I love the historic cars!
Congratulations to Rick on another great win, to DJ C. for his classy and patient driving. Sorry to David who must've had a boring race after jumping the start, and to Sebastian again for the touch. I race hard but I never ever try to touch anybody, and usually do a good job of it.

Thanks to everybody at SR4L for all the work and the great historic racing you guys are known for!

Everybody have a great week... See you on track! Smile

My sincere apologies to nikos for the bumper tap early in the race. He's such a gentleman for not mentioning it. I got distracted seeing someone else spinning up ahead of us and missed my braking point. :-[ I immediately pitted and switched tires. I moved up the order as everyone pitted, then spun and smashed my car with only 5 laps left. Sorry, Gorka; your team mate isn't much help. I had fun while it lasted, and I'm mostly glad that nikos was able to continue.

When I read "Jim Carvhalo has left the server......" I felt sad. Some kind of hard accident must have happened, I thought. We'll do better next time.

Went out early and managed a low 35 which put me in 4th but could see I would be lucky to hold that position , I thought there maybe more time in the car as I was lighting the rears up exiting Lesmo 2 and Parabolica so I added more weight and tried again , got a nice clear lap and everything came together and I got into the 34s but I was mega surprised to find myself on pole , that was a stuffy lap by me and I bet I could never repeat it .

Race

Well I threw my hard work away in the first seconds of the race by jumping the start , DOH what an idiot , did my drive through striaght away but on reflection I should have tried to take it later , came out of pits in about 15th place and worked my way up .
Came up to Andi and Cookie , I got passed Andi ok and was starting to pressure Cookie then Andi lost it going into Lesmo 1 and unfortunately collected me and pushed me into the barrier hard , got going again car appeared Ok and was catching Cookie, but I started to notice that the car was understeering on r/h turns and cooking the front tyre , had a ding dong battle with Cookie for the next few laps and we passed each other numerous times , I just could not break his tow , I eventually managed it just before my pitstop , I pitted ok but got a 53 second stop which cost me places .
Came out again and started passing slower cars and then caught Cookie again (dammit) he must have passed me in the pits , so we battled again swopping places until we came across a back marker in the Lesmos , I tried too hard to get the speed for a quick pass exiting lesmo 2 and paid dearly by lighting up the rears and spinning across the track , saw a red car go off trying to avoid me , I think it was Jerry so apologies to him , got going again but car was not happy .
I caught Mel and had a battle with him but then something happened to my comp thats never happened before , an Adobe updater popped up and threw the screen into a windowed mode that jerked and flickered like mad , I really struggled to drive after that , managed to stay with Mel then get passed him and hold it to the finish.

Great turnout for this event and the server behaved brilliantly , only had 1 glitch when following Cookie down to Parabolica he disappeared on me for a couple of secs , but this only happened once .

hey guys
FIRST - Bravo Paul! and Thank You! what a big difference this race was - with 29 starters on the grid - WOW! I know that due to all the attention you gave the server this past week that you could not practice your driving, and you might feel bummed about that. just so you know, there are 28 guys who appreciate all that you did for us! Wink

my qually went well - I was 7th at the end of it and I was ;D

race started well, with no warping and the car felt solid under me - another ;D - moved up to 6th, then 5th when Dave served his penalty. I had john wanting to get by for a couple of laps - but he was racing me very clean, he tried to get under me in the last turn and went off. unfortunately - while avoiding him I lost the front of the car and just caught the sand. was 8th after that. I caught Mel on lap 12 and we battled - back and fourth - NICE driving Mel! Wink
I pitted on lap 18, cam out in 18th place and started to work my way back up. had a nice dice with steve and when I got by him I noticed Kristijan coming out of the pits, as I passed him I took over the 8th position. I could tell he was faster than me, but he was in no hurry to pass, he wanted to bump draft. DJ gave me a lesson on this earlier in the week - thanks DJ! I tried as hard as I could, to stay steady in front of him, but my car was juking all over the place, he passed me on lap 29 and I was in 9th again. as I exited the lesmozs I seen smoke ahead, this was dave spinning. as he came back over the track it looked like he was going to stop, Kristijan made it thru, I aimed for his gear box - but then dave was there and to avoid - I landed with the guard rail stuck straight thru the car. Fortunately, it missed all vital organs :Smile - but my race was over as the guard rail would not let me go Sad
good job to all those that finished and thanks to all that make it happen...

Random Factor in evidence once more, never even made it out of the pit lane :Smile.

Race.

Excellent fun, I started carefully from last with no setup or practice and far too much fuel, gained quite a lot of places on first couple of laps, after that my bad set and heavy fuel load was a handicap. I always admire the hardcore h shifter boys like Eddy but when Eddy tried to over take me around the outside on the grass I knew not even Eddy can pull off such a move ???. And so it was! I never seen Eddy again after that bad luck mate! All things considered it was going OK, until the pit stop when my box had Mr David Cyrille parked in it :Smile So I just run straight through the pits and come in again later, that seriously messed up my result a bit. But I had a far from lonely race with lot of cars around and lots of things happening, it was good fun. 15th or something bah. I also like the 60 min races more too. Thanks a lot to the organisers,

I was having the same problem. As fuel started to get burnt and car became lighter I started getting more understeer, a bit annoying when getting mainly out of Lesmos.

It was terrible bad luck you had.

First of all, the server setup was absolutely flawless, hats off to Paul for setting everything up. 29 drivers and not a single glitch for me!

Q:

Despite practicing comparatively extensive, my personal barrier was around 1:35,8 which I delivered in Q. It was only good for 9th, since about all of the really good drivers attended the race, so I did not get to pick up the crumbs falling from the grown-up's table (as has happened in other events).

Race:

In all the practice in the buildup to the race I was never really comfortable running so close to others at that speed, somehow I always tended to brake a tick too late and running into people. The whole tandem driving reminded me of NASCAR style plate racing a couple years ago, and that always led to expensive metal bending over the course of a race (it still does, actually).

That said, I had a decent start. Approaching T1, I was in a drag race with Rikard (I think), but yielded the position respectfully (remembering that those races can only be lost in the first corner). After that I found myself in a group with Cookie, DeeCee and probably others. I cannot remember clearly since I found it rather nerve-wrecking to not take out anyone accidentally by comitting a tiny error. It came as it had to, on the entry to Lesmo 1 I was behind DeeCee, braked a tad too late, sverved to avoid him, hit the inside grass, the fence, spun and finally smashed into him. So that went well. Totally my fault and I probably cost him a better result in the race (thanks to the wise 10% damage riule we could both continue). So here are my official apologies.

The whole thing did not really improve my confidence, and in the course of the race I was so concentrated not hitting any more cars, that I managed to spin out of Parabolica twice(!) while overtaking slower or lapped cars. At least I succeeded in not being a problem for others. After the uneventful pit stop (early, to not get into pit stop traffic and hitting anyone), I got into some kind of groove, rattled off the laps in the 1:36's and kept the distance to fronat (8s) and back (2s) constant until the finish.

My takeaway: Improve on racing, not only driving fast.
