RE: Server Issues - argl - 19-10-2015 On the server issues: I think those issues are usually two-fold, one is the bandwidth and the other is the memory requirements. Each participant is grabbing a piece of memory, so would be usefull to watch the RAM usage during heavy workloads. If the systems starts to swap out to the harddrive, it needs more physical RAM. Hickups at the start are probably mainly caused by bandwidth problems, AFAIK rfactor only transmits hi-rate updates of cars around you, cars on the other side of the circuit are not updated as often. At the start everything is packed together so everyone needs hi-rate updates from everyone -> boom. Also, some client machines are probably quite taxed trying to render 24 cars in super-glossy resolution at the start and have trouble sending out position data to the server in time, so the client and the server get out of sync when reasoning about the state of the world. This would be seen as warping. I dont know how to solve all of this, the only thing coming to mind is beefing up the server on race day, maybe using a cloud service where you simply pay by the hour. It is possible to spin up a super-beefy 16-core monster on amazon and shut it down after 3 hours. That would probably cost onyl a few $. Other than that, the first race was great, finishing 6th was more than I could ask for. The second race left me vertically parked against the hayballs under the bridge at which point I called it a day.
RE: Server Issues - mel1c - 19-10-2015 But comparing R1 to R2, well there is no comparison. What was the difference? That's the question. RE: Server Issues - Paul Swire - 19-10-2015 Some great suggestions and thinks for me to think about and check. I will be starting a server tonight at Longford with the BT20 with a minimum of 20 AI purely for stress testing the server. One thing I did find after Sunday's race was the hard drive on he server was nearly full. This is due to high volume of mods, replays and xml files. After a lot of clearing out I managed to clear a reasonable amount of space. So could of possibly of been a factor. I will see how the server RAM performs for a few days with the stress test. RE: Server Issues - gorgias1976 - 19-10-2015 Nice, Paul. RE: Server Issues - 1959nikos - 19-10-2015 Great Paul, thanks for the effort. RE: Server Issues - jerry 33 - 20-10-2015 Thanks Paul
RE: Server Issues - Paul Swire - 25-10-2015 Just to give you all an update on where I am with my testing on the server. I have found the problem to be a very high number of TCP connections. This is caused by various applications requiring use of the bandwidth, one of the largest was Drop Box. So I have shut that down for now and restarted the box to see if that makes an improvement. I will keep you updated on my findings. RE: Server Issues - Hedlund - 25-10-2015 Paul_Swire Wrote:Just to give you all an update on where I am with my testing on the server. I have found the problem to be a very high number of TCP connections. Nice. I hope that will fix it. Otherwise do you think we can restart server before Qualify and before second race (if we still have problems tonight)? We could take screen prints of race 1 results and then add a few extra minutes to warm-up so you can set the grid. RE: Server Issues - Paul Swire - 25-10-2015 Hedlund Wrote:Nice. I hope that will fix it. I will restart the whole server before I set the rF2 server up for tonight's race. I will do this at 17:15 GMT ready for the practice at 17:25. And yes it is an option to do a restart between races if there is a large amount of traffic, but this will take about 5 mins before the server comes live again so there will be a little bit of down time in between races if we do this. RE: Server Issues - gorgias1976 - 25-10-2015 I suspect there could be less people today due to F1. You were wrong 8) 26 drivers :o RE: Server Issues - smbrm - 26-10-2015 I got disconnected in the 2nd race? Any reason why rejoin is not allowed? Just wondering when server appears to have some instability? Would some more respect for the pace on the first couple of laps might reduce the carnage? RE: Server Issues - gorgias1976 - 26-10-2015 Hedlund Wrote:gorgias1976 Wrote:I suspect there could be less people today due to F1. ---and I liked it ![]() Server was a bit unstable yesterday. Some, me included, were having rFactor2 crashes when getting back to garage or when sessions changed. Also when first entering and loading my setup my gear ratios were not showing and therefore I was only having 1st gear ratio in all gears. I took a while to fix, I think the las thing I did was setting default, loading and then "Asigning" the setup to default and sudenly it got fixed. Also during a moment of one of the races I got cars in front disappearing for around 30 seconds. RE: Server Issues - Hedlund - 26-10-2015 gorgias1976 Wrote:---and I liked it Yes, server was unstable. Even in the first race DJ's car was lagging in front of me and it felt a bit unsafe. Much better just 1-2 laps later. In the second race it was much worse. No cars disappeared, but they were lagging and floating around. Couldn't really race them seriously before it had calmed down. I think this lag is a big reason for all the accidents we had too :-\ RE: Server Issues - 1959nikos - 26-10-2015 smbrm Wrote:I got disconnected in the 2nd race? Any reason why rejoin is not allowed? If it was allowed that would mean that people could leave their race, feed the dog. Rejoin. Then leave their race, answer their phone. Rejoin. Then leave the race, make a cup of tea. Rejoin. Then leave the race again cause they didnt put enough brandy in tea. Rejoin. Now how would you feel having in your race someone that joined randomly whenever he felt like it while you were racing for points? smbrm Wrote:Just wondering when server appears to have some instability? I dont understand the question. smbrm Wrote:Would some more respect for the pace on the first couple of laps might reduce the carnage? I wasnt in actual race but I was all previous week in the server and it amazed me how our members behaved in such a difficult track, I felt that our league has moved up in maturity (exceptions prove the rule). Reports from race say the same. Arent you overeacting? RE: Server Issues - mel1c - 26-10-2015 My experience at Longford Sunday: As soon as I joined the server, I noticed things were not right. Cars were flashing on and off in the paddock. When I took to the track for quali, there was lagging and what I think was stuttering and/or input lag. I have never experienced that before. It was bad enough that with no other cars around that it was difficult to drive the track. I also noticed my GPU and CPU usage was maxed out, which never has happened before. During the week and on the BT20 server and BB's Longford server I had no such issues at all. My guess is that it is an issue with the big field and maybe me being the furthest away geographically. I gave up during R1, so can't comment on R2. RE: Server Issues - gorgias1976 - 26-10-2015 I have several doubts. How much bandwidth does the server require per driver in? Does the server asign the same bandwith for every driver or does it asign the bandwidth the driver has in his multiplayer.ini file (or .json or whatever)? If that would be the case (not probably) maybe some driver with a high bandwith in his setting could be eating up all bandwith inside the server. RE: Server Issues - 1959nikos - 27-10-2015 gorgias1976 Wrote:maybe some driver with a high bandwith in his setting could be eating up all bandwith inside the server. Is there a way each of us check this for himself? RE: Server Issues - sdancourt - 27-10-2015 Before Longford race, I decided to set visual cars at 15 RE: Server Issues - gorgias1976 - 27-10-2015 1959nikos Wrote:gorgias1976 Wrote:maybe some driver with a high bandwith in his setting could be eating up all bandwith inside the server. Previously it was defined at the Multiplier.ini, so now it should be in it's related .json file |
